About Headway
Headway is a US service that lists 80,000+ licensed therapists, psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners who are credentialed with insurance plans through Headway. You search by your insurance, state, specialty and availability, book online, and meet by video or, with many providers, in person. Headway bills your insurer, gives you an estimated per-session cost at booking, and charges your share (copay, coinsurance or deductible) after the visit; it charges no platform fee. Headway requires an in-network plan and has no cash-pay option. It accepts select Medicare Advantage and Medicaid managed care plans in some states, but not Original Medicare or Medicaid fee-for-service. Since July 2026, telehealth sessions with a provider not credentialed in the state where you are located are out of network. Late-cancellation fees are set by your provider and are not covered by insurance. Headway's privacy policy says it does not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising; private class actions filed in 2024 and 2025 allege that website trackers sent data to Google and LinkedIn, and those claims are unresolved.
