About OxfordVR gameChange
gameChange is an automated VR cognitive therapy program developed by Oxford University, Oxford VR, and multiple NHS Trusts, recommended for use in NHS mental health services for treating severe agoraphobia in patients with psychosis. It represents the first-ever VR treatment approved for NHS mental health services. The program enables largely housebound patients with agoraphobia to safely practice re-entering everyday situations through immersive VR environments. A virtual coach guides patients through CBT-based exposure therapy, eliminating the need for a real therapist during sessions. Clinical trials led by Professor Daniel Freeman showed significant reductions in avoidance and distress, with patients who were most severely affected experiencing the largest benefits, including being able to undertake activities they had previously found unthinkable.
