Mechanism

Adventure therapy works through experiential learning, immersion in nature, and physical challenge. Outdoor activities promote mindfulness, reduce stress through nature exposure, and elicit adaptive coping strategies. Group dynamics foster social skills, trust, and collaboration, while overcoming physical challenges builds self-efficacy and resilience. Psychological change is facilitated through reflection and guided processing by therapists.
